     Best Western Plus Houston Energy Corridor The Landscape Irrigators Licensing Course is a comprehensive 40-hour in-person training program designed to equip aspiring and practicing irrigation professionals with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to obtain their landscape irrigator's license.

The Landscape Irrigators Licensing Course is a comprehensive 40-hour in-person training program designed to equip aspiring and practicing irrigation professionals with the knowledge necessary to obtain their landscape irrigator’s license. Delivered across structured classroom sessions, the course covers a broad range of essential topics, including irrigation system design principles, hydraulics and water pressure calculations, soil and plant water requirements, backflow prevention, system installation and maintenance, and adherence to local and state water conservation codes and regulations. Students will gain direct experience reading and interpreting site plans and blueprints and troubleshooting common irrigation system issues. Instruction is led by a licensed professional with real-world field experience, ensuring that participants receive both technically rigorous and practically relevant training. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be fully prepared to sit for the state licensing examination and confidently enter the field as qualified, licensed landscape irrigators.

What to bring to class:

  • Calculator 
  • Note-taking supplies – notebook, pens, pencils, and highlighters.
  • Eraser 
  • Engineer’s scale – for measuring and scaling designs. (Make sure to get an Engineers Scale, Not an Architects Scale) 
  • Shape template for drafting – to help with layout and design drawings.
  • Bow compass – for drawing circles and arcs in irrigation plans. 

Please make note of the Eligibility Requirements for this class which include:

  • the potential ineligibility of an individual who has been convicted of an offense to be issued an occupational license by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) upon completion of the educational program;
  • the current TCEQ Criminal Conviction Guidelines for Occupational Licensing, which describes the process by which the TCEQ’s Executive Director determines whether a criminal conviction:
    • renders a prospective applicant an unsuitable candidate for an occupational license;
    • warrants the denial of a renewal application for an existing license; or
    • warrants revocation or suspension of a license previously granted.
  • the right to request a criminal history evaluation from the TCEQ under Texas Occupations Code Section 53.102; and
  • that the TCEQ may consider an individual to have been convicted of an offense for the purpose of denying, suspending or revoking a license under circumstances described in Title 30 Texas Administrative Code Section 30.33.
